Boy or girl?

The Chinese Pregnancy Calendar is based on legend, and has been used to predict whether an unborn child will be a boy or a girl.
According to legend, the Chinese pregnancy chart was buried in a royal tomb almost 900 years ago and was just recently discovered.
To use the Chinese pregnancy calendar, you will go down the column until you get to the age of the mother at the time of conception (it could be different if the mother has had a birthday since conceiving).
Then go across that row until you get to the month the baby was conceived. If the square is blue, it’s a boy! If the square is pink a girl is on the way!

So, all of you moms out there, tell if the prediction was right, if it is, I am having a girl.

Braxton Matthew

Our friends Sarah and Joel welcomed Braxton Matthew this morning at 3:30 a.m. We are so incredibly happy, it's been a long journey for them. Everyone is doing well:) They arrived at the hospital at 1:30 a.m. and he was born a couple hours later. They just made it.

#1

I guess the baby is just letting us know it's #1, we love this picture:) Our ultrasound was good today, the baby is incredibly active and was constantly moving around, so the tech could not for a minute tell if it was a girl or a boy, it would not settle down. So, atleast we are not disappointed that we didn't get to find out the sex. The baby completely switched it's position right away and went from being head up to head down.

This is full body shot in a way of the baby, a good picture of it's spine.

This is some of the face and arm. I think I counted that their are 5 fingers, woo hoo. Whenever the tech would try and zoom in a little on the face, it would hide it's head behind the placenta, so this is the best shot she could get of the face.

Blue?

This is the nursery right now, what a mess. I cleaned the closet out and piled everything in the middle of the room so we could start painting (I mean so that Brent could start painting). We are going with blue, no that does not mean we are having a boy. We are having our ultrasound tomorrow and we have decided to not find out what we are having until the baby is born. We both like blue, so blue it is. Brent got the priming done today and he will get the paint on this week. I will update soon.

Tina is trying to find a comfortable spot amongst all of the blankets from the closet.

Thor checking out the new humidifier in the living room, he keeps an eye on it for us in case their are any problems.

We had a wonderful weekend, but again it went by too fast. Friday I had off of work and hung out with Heidi and Lucy. We had a great lunch and shopping outing. Saturday Brent and I visited Mindy, Jon and Natalie and went out for lunch and of course a trip to Babies R Us. It was great seeing you guys again, Natalie is tons of fun! Tonight we had pizza with Doug and Bev and then had a birthday party at Brent's cousin Brianne's place, it's her husband Steve's birthday tomorrow, Happy Birthday Steve!

Half Way

That is Baby Wood right there, not really, but, the baby is the length of a banana this week. They now measure the baby differently. They use to measure from head to rump, now it's head to heel. I am sure since this is a Wood baby, it's a tish longer than a banana, but I could be wrong. The baby weighs approximately 10 1/2 ounces now. It's also learning to swallow more to strengthen its digestive track.
Baby Center says that I should have gained around 10 lbs now and that I will probably gain a pound a week from now on, whoa. I will find out Friday at my appt. just how much I have gained. I am scared. The baby is really liking dairy lately, which doesn't mean I have been drinking lots of milk, it means I have been eating lots of ice cream. Whatever it takes to get dairy right.

Things I miss.......

We went out to dinner tonight with Marcy and Trent and Marcy was asking me if I miss certain things since becoming pregnant. Hmmmmm, I thought about it and of course just last night I hung out at home while Brent was out snowboarding, something we both started doing last year. Now he is going to be a year more advanced than me by the time I get to hop on my board again, ha. He has already been out three times this season. I wonder really how much boarding I will be doing next year? I didn't get to go snowtubing with my Women of Today group for our Christmas party either. I was so ready to head out on the hills until so many people were worried about me, so I backed out. One thing I thought of that is so weird is that all the new clothes in the store that are coming out for spring I haven't even looked at yet, at this time of year I was always shopping and checking out the latest clothes. I dont really get excited about shopping for maternity clothes for spring. I hate spending money on clothes that I will only wear for the next 5 months.

I miss some things, but their are tons more things that I am so excited about that I didn't get to even think about before, such as: telling all of our family and friends we were having a baby, what color to paint a nursery, what my little boy or girls name will be, walking on the trail by our house with a baby in a stroller, watching Brent be a dad, seeing our cats with a baby in the house, what crazy names our parents will be called (papa, nana), who our baby will look like.

I started feeling the baby move recently and it's incredibly exciting, it's very random and not very consistant, but it's so exciting every time it happens. I can't wait until it's even bigger and Brent will be able to feel it move too.

So, their are things I miss, but it's all worth it for the things I get in return.

19 weeks

Your pregnancy: 19 weeks
How your baby's growing:Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces, and he measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. His arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of his body now. His kidneys continue to make urine, and the hair on his scalp is sprouting. This is a crucial time for sensory development: Your baby's brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. If your baby is a girl, she has an astonishing 6 million eggs in her ovaries. They'll dwindle to fewer than two million by the time she's born.Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. Our information is designed to give you a general idea of your baby's development.

How your life's changing:You're just a week shy of the halfway mark. You may notice some achiness in your lower abdomen (perhaps extending to your groin) or even an occasional quick, sharp, stabbing pain on one or both sides, especially when you change position or at the end of an active day. This is round ligament pain, and it's caused by the stretching of the muscles and ligaments that support your growing uterus. It's nothing to be alarmed about, but if the pain is persistent and continues even when you're resting, or is severe or accompanied by cramping, call your practitioner. You may also have noticed some skin changes lately. Are the palms of your hands red? Nothing to worry about — it's from increased estrogen. Patches of darkened skin are also common during pregnancy. When they show up around your upper lip, upper cheeks and forehead, they're called chloasma, or the "mask of pregnancy." You may see these splotches on your arms or other areas that have been exposed to the sun. Your nipples, freckles, scars, underarms, inner thighs, and vulva may also darken during pregnancy. That darkened line running from your belly button to your pubic bone is called the linea nigra, or "dark line." All of this darkening is caused by a temporary increase in melanin, the substance that colors your hair, skin, and eyes. For most women, these darkened spots will fade shortly after delivery. In the meantime, protect yourself from the sun, which intensifies the pigment changes. Cover up, wear a brimmed hat, and use sunscreen when you're outdoors. And if you're self-conscious about your "mask," a little concealing makeup can work wonders.

baby bump

I think this past week I officially popped and now look pregnant. It's weird I must say, but it's good to know that things must be progressing like they are suppposed to be. I had to go buy some new shirts today because the old ones are just getting too short. So, I am sure I will grow into these new shirts. The baby is the size of a bell pepper this past week and is 7 ounces, wow.

Up all night

So, I guess my job is trying to prepare me for being a new mother. I was so busy on call last night, lately I have been getting slammed on my nights on. I had four deaths last night, one at 6 p.m., then again at 10 p.m., then at 1:30 a.m., and finally at 7 a.m. So, I am guessing that is somewhat of a schedule of getting up in the night with a baby. Also, I am up for about 2-3 hours when I get a death if their is embalming, so I got to sleep from about 4:30-7 a.m., I am tired. I am guessing it's more fun actually getting to hold a baby during those hours rather than embalming.

I think I am up for the challenge.

Sewing lesson

As you can see Brent is totally excited about his new cell phone purse I made when learning to sew. Bev gave Christine and I a sewing lesson during the Super Bowl tonight and this was my first creation, really I was just practicing with the sewing machine and sewing a straight line. The Super Bowl was good and the Giants won, woo hoo. We had great food, make your own pizza and a wonderful fudge dessert that Bev made. Other than this fun, I pretty much worked my entire weekend, it was incredibly busy, 5 deaths on Saturday makes for one busy day. I will be glad when next weekend rolls around.
